Madison Country Cookbooks...

As hard as it is to get a group of people to do anything well one has to acknowledge
that hundreds of different families from rural Madison county Iowa who all came
together to help author these several very fascinating cookbooks that are
rapidly
growing in popularity all over the world.
These different cookbooks allow outsiders a brief but insightful glimpse into a
rapidly disappearing culture of rural America and Midwestern culture that has
developed over the last hundred years or so into what it is today.
These same simple country folk have provided a very intimate look into the
everyday lives of these average Americans and their unique
and inspired
family traditions. St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Winterset, Iowa spearheaded
this effort on behalf of the community to put together several of these special cookbooks that would represent some
of the down home Midwestern traditions found only here in Iowa. The result is several uniquely Iowa only cookbooks
that contain real family traditions & of course recipes and stories that will be cherished by all who pick them up for
years to come to be handed down to the next generation to keep these old recipes and traditions alive and well.
The 1st Madison county cook book was chosen as the 1994 Midwest
Winner of the Tabasco Community Cookbook award. Also the cookbook was selected as one
of 20 Iowa products (out of 250 entries) featured on QVC, the national cable home shopping
network as part of QVS's "Quest for America's Best - the 50 in 50 Tour."
These unique cookbooks have a real special down to earth feel to them which brings you back
to them again and again to explorer their hidden treasured family recipes locked within.
Also in addition to the unique down home recipes are cute and informative folk-art illustrations, stories and
anecdotes by participants about events and sites of the area and different festivals blending throughout the book.
